Problem Note 54582: High CPU use and heap growth occur in the Java process (SAS® Web Application Server) to which SAS® Financial Management is deployed
Incorrect Atomikos JAR files can cause excessive CPU use for the SAS® Web Application Server (a Java process) on which SAS Financial Management is deployed. In addition, Java virtual machine (JVM) heap analysis (using a tool such as jvisualvm) reveals a subtle growth in heap size over time, which is indicative of a memory leak.
There are a number of problems outside of the SAS System that can exhibit symptoms similar to those described above. Before you consider this note a solution to your problem, you need to determine whether you have this specific problem. To verify that your problem matches the one described in this note, all of the following conditions must be met:
High CPU
- The high CPU is a result of a single process, which you need to identify.
- The following information is true about the process that you identify as the problem:
- The process is a Java process.
- The Java process is a SAS Web Application Server.
- SAS Financial Management is deployed on that SAS Web Application Server.
- High CPU activity occurs all of the time, even when no users access SAS Financial Management or any of the SAS® web applications that are deployed to that server.
Heap Growth over Time
- Confirm heap growth over time by enabling verbose garbage-collection logging for the JVM. Heap growth that is attributable to this problem is relatively small, so expect to collect this data over a number of days.
- Confirm that the resting heap grows and is not affected appreciably by garbage-collection activity.
There is no solution or workaround for this problem.
